Recognizable costumes, built on a small budget

Funny Cosmos publishes step-by-step guides for DIY Halloween costumes and first-time cosplay. Thrifted clothes, craft-store foam, cardboard and a hot glue gun. No sewing machine required.

Who writes here

Remy Okafor is the name on funnycosmos’s costume guides, written for people who want a recognizable costume without a big budget or a sewing machine. It’s a pen name for the site’s editorial voice, not a costume designer’s portfolio.

Materials and methods are the common craft-store kind. Safety notes on paints, glue and props come from the manufacturers’ own guidance.

How the guides are made

  1. Start with the silhouette. Every guide asks what people will recognize from across the room, then lists the two or three details that carry the character.
  2. Outline, then check by hand. Steps are outlined with an AI tool, then checked for order and safety by hand and rewritten step by step.
  3. Safety from the label. Advice on face paint, glue and props is taken from the manufacturer’s label, not from guesswork.
  4. Budget first. Materials are things you already own or can find in a thrift store or craft aisle.

What we don’t cover

  • Realistic weapon props
